Can I perhaps get some feedback on the programs:
- Fire-a multi-protocol instant messenger client for Mac OS X.
- Proteus-Instant Messaging application supports AIM, Yahoo, Jabber, MSN, and ICQ.
I'm experimenting with both. Just got them. I'm tired of the gliches when using MSN directly. Any Hints, thoughts, input, whatever are appreciated.

I recommend Proteus whole-heartedly.
Doesn't allow file transfers - but has a great interface, allows you to combine your contacts (ie, a single contact for a single person - despite multiple accounts on different services).
Fire seemed okay, but not too great.

I do like Proteus, and it probably would be my preference, but it's being finicky with MSN. And is not connecting. I have been told the two "don't get along".

Well, in the unhelpful, but truthful category - all I can say is "works for me".

Clearly there is only one explaination for the fact that Proteus works for you. You are in alliance with THEM. Judgements should not be placed because of this fact. THEY are very dangerous, but an alliance with them could be used to our advantage if you are willing to be a double agent.
Do not feel that you have to make a decision right away. It is up to you, but consider the fact that LFS does expect to win the oncoming war, and if you remain with THEM, then you will come out on the wrong side.

I still stand by Fire, it's got most of the functions I'm used to as a former windows user that Trillian had. You can merge all your contacts on one list, enable secure connections, it's all about Fire.
